LEHMAN CAVES

Over Labor Day, we went to Lehman Caves and camped and gathered pine cones. When the kids were little, we took them down there and the campground was right next to the cave entrance. Now, that is a picnic area and the campgrounds are 3 to 15 miles away! The pine cones were few and far between this year. We managed to collect a few but nothing like we have in the past.
The deer were all over and were not afraid of people. I guess they have figured out that no one will shoot at them while in the park.

One of the cave formations known as the Parachute! We were waiting for our tour to start when we ran into a neighbor and his wife from Magna. He had visited the area before when he was a kid but had never visited the caves! We went on the tour together and spent the next two days site-seeing with them. We visited a fish farm and tried to find more pine cones. We also went on a scenic drive to the top of a mountain and if we had had hiking shoes, we would have hiked up to the glacier and the Bristle cone pine trees that are thousands of years old.

I love the cave tour because there is no hiking involved! Just a gradual decent into the cave and a gradual ascent out of it! We had a great time and will go again next pine nut season!
